Week Ten, Day Three
Today has been quite the day. I had major anxiety last night and spent most of it between tossing and turning or getting up and trying to do something useful like work. I should have allowed myself to sleep in longer, but I woke up early and couldn't fall back asleep... the anxiety settling back in. So I decided to get up and get going with the day.
I got my workout gear on and checked my email and then a work crisis happened! And of course my immediate reaction was to balk against going to the gym. But I have to figure this out! I told myself. And then my logical side took over and said, there's nothing you can do right now. Use your anxiety at the gym.
So I did. For the first time since I've been working out - I really used the gym to "relieve stress." Did it work? Kind of. For the time we were in the gym, I didn't worry about what was going on. And every time it started to slip into my mind, I pushed myself on the machine, which forced me to focus on my breathing instead of my anxiety. It was kind of miraculous. I can understand why/how they say exercise is a stress reliever, because in part - it is. I got a great calorie burn and it did allow me to settle the brain for a bit.
As a reward, we went to check out this new place that just opened up called WYSIWYG Juice Bar (What You See Is What You Get -- a tech term, so naturally, my husband loved it).
And it was SO COOL. Cold Press Juices, Smoothies, Gluten-Free food, snack and desserts. We were in sensory overload. I ended up with quite the loot:
That bowl is a "Smoothie Bowl" - I know it looks like Avocado, but it's not! It was actually a Pina Colada smoothie with fresh fruit and protein powder. And it's topped with granola, fresh pineapple and salted pecans. It was DELICIOUS. Seriously. And I can't ever pass up White Chocolate Cheesecake (even of the Gluten-Free variety).
It's crazy that things THIS healthy are SO good and they're now my "reward." Before, I would have thought a Venti Caramel Frappacino or Coffee Cake from Caribou would be my "reward" and then honestly, what would have been the point of working out? :)
I'm excited to try more things from WYSIWYG as I think it's a great supplement to the healthier lifestyle I'm trying to live.
