You know that moment when you meet a group of people that get you? I mean, really, truly get you? They understand your passions and the crazy way you feel about certain things. They sit with you for hours on end and talk about all the things you have in common?

I found that group of people recently.

When I found out about the RT Convention, I immediately knew it was a place where I belonged. A place I could spread my nerdy, geeky wings and fly. RT Convention is put on by RT Book Reviews and it's a place where all things writing/reading are discussed. But it's so much more than that. It's also about marketing, networking and the business side of publishing. Basically...it's heaven for a writer and reader.

But it's freaking expensive. I promised myself I would save enough money to go next year. Then my husband, the wonderful man that he is, decided to get my family to chip in to send me there for my birthday. Best. Birthday. Present. Ever.

I couldn't believe I was going to go away, by myself, for an entire week of all things books. To say I was excited would be an understatement. I was overjoyed.

I knew I was going to have a fabulous time...I just didn't know I would have such a freaking amazing time. I was surrounded by like-minded people who truly understand what it feels like to be utterly and completely in love with reading and writing.

I met some incredibly talented individuals. I mean, so talented I'm lucky to be in the same company as them. I met some life long friends. I learned a ton about the business, about writing but mostly...I learned a lot about myself. I left the conference with a solid group of friends that I plan to keep in touch with for the rest of my life. I left the conference revitalized with motivation and inspiration for my novel(s).

Basically, RT Convention was exactly what I needed at this time in my life. More than that-- it was something I deserved. I've worked my ass off lately. I work a full time job, come home and work on my novels, find time to read, blog and critique for other writers. I deserved the chance to realize that I'm actually pretty damn awesome.

And that's a really cool thing to realize.

So without further ado, pictures to accompany this post!
