I'm in between my last edits of Whiskey and a Gun and starting NaNoWriMo on Friday and of course, I started the itch to start a new book. To keep myself busy, I've plotted for NaNo, organized my Scrivener and desk space. I also decided to rearrange my bookshelves. As if I really had time for that.... but I did it anyway.

I figured it'd be nice to share a piece of myself with you all because my books and my writing are my life. You can tell a lot about a person by their bookshelves.

So what do mine say about me?

This is my "Favorites" bookshelf. Books that are near and dear to me for one reason or another and books that I will reread time and time again. Obviously, there's not enough space for all of them. Oh, and obviously my own books should have their very own spot.

This is part 1 of my "read and kept" shelves. Some of these I read and really enjoyed. Some are books from authors I really love but these particular ones aren't my favorite. And some are books I read and serve a purpose like reminding me what kind of books I never want to write. (Twilight, anyone?!)

I literally have run out of shelf space so this cedar chest my grandfather built is being used as part 2 of my "read and kept" shelf. The binders are all my "works in progress" where I keep ideas/scraps of written dialogue or chapters.

This is my "craft and references" shelf. It's small but mighty. Dictionaries, thesauruses, books about writing. This is the shelf that sees the most action as I'm a reference junkie and I LOVE being able to actually utilize these craft books.

This bad boy is my "TBR" shelf. Lots and lots of pretties on this shelf. And not near enough room. This one also serves as the beginning of my "coffee table" books or random fan books like the 501 movies you should see. Obviously, my ratio of coffee table books to actual coffee tables is a little off... so for now they are either on this shelf or the next one.

Lastly, this is my "I have absolutely no where else to stash these books" shelf. As an English major, I racked up quite a few books/anthologies that served as my textbooks. So this plastic bin is a lot of the books I used for those classes. I will occasionally still dig in here to look up a story by an author or reread sections of poems in an anthology. I also have my dear Postsecret books that are just too bulky to take up space on another shelf.
As you can see, I'm an avid book hoarder collector. I love the smell, feel, texture and look of books. And my bookshelves are as much a part of me as anything else. That's why I wrote them into my wedding vows. That's why I'm a "package" deal. You take me, you take my bookshelves. I'm looking forward to having a room devoted to my books and bookshelves someday. Someday.

Until then, I will continue to be clever with my book collecting/stashing ways. Hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my life :)
